We Just officialy released DriveCrypt, the successor of Scramdsisk. DriveCrypt it the most advanced and secure cryptographic software available on the market today.

Two more major Scramdisk in the press:

  • On 1 Apr 99, the Guardian newspaper included a mention of Scramdisk in the "online" supplement. I must have forgotten about this one!
  • Feature on Scramdisk in Bug, June 99. Bug is the best selling magazine in Croatia (yes, they sell 30,000 per month - more even than Playboy ;) and the piece was quite long ...Cool. A free copy of SD4XP going out to Oleg Mastruko, their Executive Editor for further review in due course.

  • PC Go (German). 11/00 issue - pg96-97. Seems to be a quick 'how to use Scramdisk article'
  • PC Magazine (Italian) 02/01 issue - pg114. Part of a review of 170 utilities. Also included on Cover-CD.

This source code is for private study only. It is not to be incorperated into new projects without permission. Commercial works based on this source code, or the Scramdisk system may be subject to a royalty.

19 Oct 00 Scramdisk for NT & W2k version 3.02A is now available for the modest fee of $20 USD (£15). This initial release is feature complete apart from the lack of the Red Screen password entry, which isn't supported by NT. An alternative method is under development, and will be issued as a free upgrade in the future for those who require the facility.

To order Scramdisk for NT & W2k please submit an e-mail to win2K@scramdisk.com and we'll send an e-mail detailing payment methods etc. We will also honour anonymous purchasing of the software, again submit an e-mail and we'll send details.

14 Aug 00 Download Lopen.com here.For people who have been having trouble dismounting disks, without having to resort to brutal dismounts and blue screens. Lopen lists all open files on a disk drive letter including a mounted scramdisk. This should help you track down the application which opened them. Open a Dos box, change (CD) the directory to where you have placed Lopen and type Lopen followed by the drive letter for the disk you want the open files to be listed EG: Lopen Y This will list in the dos box, all files open on Drive Y: [Update: 16/8 - now in a .ZIP file).

31 July 00 We are extremely saddened to hear that Emilio Oriente has passed away. Anyone who follows the "crypto-scene" will no doubt have heard of Emilio, he has converted the Scramdisk & PGP manuals from English to French and has been involved in the proliferation of strong crypto throughout France. Our respectful condolences go to Emilios family and friends.

A couple of quick fixes:

  • When double clicking on an SKF or SVL, with hot keys enabled, the program stays loaded on the systray if there isn't one there already
  • If the hot keys are enabled, and disks are mounted, you try to quit, you now get a warning that the hot keys won't work. The warning does not appear if no disks are mounted.
  • There were some bugs in the wondows SC_COMMAND handling, resulting on the appearance of a window which should remain invisible... (try clicking on the icon bar and selecting 'Tile all windows'!
V3.01 2 May 00 Major new revision containing revamped UI & system tray functionality.
V2.02h 1 Apr 99 Option to no longer ask if passwords are to be cleared. Added auto-execution facility. Allow fast automated shutdown under 98. Several intermittent bugs fixed.

Solves the following bugs: BestCrypt, Large window fonts, Log off / log on bug (For Link), SKF bug, Intermittent freezing bug (caused by buffer misallocation)

Enhancements include:

  • Can now have 8 mounted volumes rather than 4.
  • Very low level (Red) password entry screen that stops SKIN98 etc. snooping key-presses.
  • 16 (NORMAL) devices can be displayed rather than 8.
  • Shows last opened time & date of an enciphered volume
  • Minor changes to Cipher Verification form.
  • Now allows forced dismount of drives.
  • Option to minimise to system tray.
  • Option to disable "No physical" warning message. (For Bear)
  • Hotkeys for dismount and brutal dismount.
  • Some command line options have been added. (To Mount container / dismount / dismount brutal)
  • Can now change the passphrase used to access a disk (though this doesn't re-encipher the disk).
  • Now possible to revoke SKF access.
  • Completely rewritten User Manual
  • Now comes with a small example app that demonstrates mounting disks programmatically
  • Option to disable "No physical" warning message. (For "Bear")
V2.01 21 July 98 Interim build of ScramDisk that solved the BestCrypt bug.
V2.00 14 July 98 The first release given to the public. Contains the following ciphers: 3DES, Blowfish, DES, IDEA, Misty1, Square, Summer, TEA (16 & 32).

SHA-1 is the sole hash algorithm and the program supports 8 & 4 bit WAV steganography. This version now works under '98.
V1.00 20 Nov 97 First release. Contains only the proprietary cipher 'Summer'. This wasn't publicly released.
