-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ScramDisk News ============== As you may have noticed, things have been a little quiet for a month or two on the ScramDisk front. So, we thought it would be a good idea to write a quick "newsletter" to keep you updated on developments. Windows NT ========== Windows NT development is well under way. Still far to soon to report on a release date, but please be assured that development is progressing. AMAN is endeavouring to ensure that the NT driver is as compatible with existing tools (e.g. the ScramDisk front end and the Delphi component) to minimise cross-platform development issues. Linux ===== Progress unknown. Watch this space.... Delphi ====== Andy Jeffries of Kwik-Rite development has completed development of the beta version of the Delphi SD component - expect to see some output from this project within the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to Stefan Hoffmeister (Delphi guru!) for locating a showstopping bug. Initially we are looking at producing command line tools and a system tray application. The native Delphi component, with source, will certainly also be available so that appropriately equipped developers can integrate ScramDisk functionality into their own applications. v2.02g ====== Seems very stable. Since the 17th of November 1998 we have had very few reports of problems. There appears to be some conflict between the Red Screen mode and certain specific ATI drivers. In view of the fact that 2.02g appears to be a stable release, we are in the process of tidying up the 2.02g source code and User Manual for imminent release. Sorry for the delays, but we wanted to check thoroughly that v2.02g was really stable. Once the source code is released, we now urge all users to move to 2.02g unless they have a compelling reason for not doing so. ScramDisk Usenet Group ====================== A loud voice has mentioned that ScramDisk should not be discussed on comp.security.pgp.discuss because "...posts about ScramDisk are clearly offtopic here...". As far as we are concerned, ScramDisk *is* on topic for this forum, so we shall continue to discuss ScramDisk matters both there and in alt.security.pgp. We are still looking at the feasibility of producing a alt.security.scramdisk / comp.security.scramdisk / comp.security.diskencr - but frankly I don't think there is a call for it. Comments either way appreciated. Web Site ======== The ScramDisk web page has now had 50,000 hits in 7-months. Many thanks for your continued support. Recently, due to the high number of hits, we have had server reliability and bandwidth concerns. We are in discussion with a number of large sites who may be able to better provide web space & a high speed connection.... Watch this space. Other Business ============== John C. Dvorak mentioned ScramDisk (with an URL to the web site) in his Inside Track column (PC Magazine, March 9, 1999). - From the piece: "The joke of this is that the encryption bandwagon rolls on overseas without us. In case you're looking for a way to encrypt files on your computer, for example, there are numerous Web sites in England and elsewhere where excellent strong-encryption software is available. While we make a fuss over PGP here in the states, take a look at the excellent multicipher freeware version of Scramdisk (http://www.hertreg.ac.uk/ss/) out of the U.K. This system sets up a scrambled virtual disk that is both secure and easy to use. You don't end up with a bunch of individual scrambled files, each with its own password. You have one virtual disk. More important, the system uses a variety of schemes including triple DES, which all experts say is uncrackable, period." This has resulted in a huge number of new users (and the resulting support e-mails ). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.0.2 iQA/AwUBNtwxLu0ty8FDP9tPEQLPgwCg6I6ZJvLk+L+1vWtyOBF6aVr9yoIAoK1l L49AtRdwWOhN5OjgvAwCzTZq =FdRu -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
